Cairo contains no cemeteries within the city limits because of the danger of flooding. The city is surrounded on all sides by levees, with heavy gates that can be closed when the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers are high. Here, on the southeast side of town, outside the levee, can be seen the Ohio River, and the bridge leading to Kentucky.
