William Henry Dieterich was born near Cooperstown in Brown County, a short distance from Rushville. He fought in the Spanish-American War, later becoming city attorney for Rushville, county judge, and one-term congressman (1931-1933), before being elected to the United States Senate as a Democrat.
Senator Dieterich's grave is located a short distance north of the mausoleum, along the cemetery's western edge. Behind it, East Avenue B leads into the city.
