Cairo City Cemetery: toward Calvary

To the left (south), a road joins Cairo City Cemetery to Calvary Catholic Cemetery - the mausoleum with the peaked roof in the centre of this photograph is part of Calvary.

Though Catholics and Protestants were usually buried in separate cemeteries in 19th-century America, the cemeteries were often adjoining, and the boundary between them often unmarked.
