Abraham W. Carlock, founder of this cemetery, came to Illinois from Tennessee with his brother Reuben, settling in Woodford county in 1832, within a hundred yards of White Oak township, McLean county.1. Carlock became prominent in local politics, such that the town of White Oak was renamed "Carlock" in his honour about 1875.2
Carlock was a proud Democrat, often saying that his first vote for a presidential candidate was for General Andrew Jackson, under whom his father and brothers had served.3 He died in 1884, and on his monument appear the words 'Here sleeps the old Democrat'.
