The Republican Cemetery, Oak Grove,
was established by Philip Benson, a faithful member
of the Whig party - and after the 1850s, the newly-formed Republican Party. Philip Benson
and Abraham Carlock were said to be so committed to their respective factions
that
neither would permit members of the opposing party into their homes. 1
