Joliet's Russian Cemetery is small, less than a city block in size. It has a strongly Eastern character, with most of the monuments featuring inscriptions in the Cyrillic alphabet, and crosses of the Eastern Orthodox style.

The elaborate entrance gate has an unusual feature: a small inner gate, such that one must stoop to enter, perhaps to remind visitors to be humble.
