Rabbi Herman Schaalman affixes a Mezzuzah to the doorpost. A Mezzuzah consists of a parchment scroll containing the Torah verses beginning with Shema Yisrael inside a decorative case. It is affixed to doorways of residences and other important buildings in fulfillment of the commandment in Deuteronomy 6:9.
