Ferdinand Haase (cemetery founder)
|
Ferdinand Haase originally owned all of the land which eventually became Forest Home and Waldheim cemeteries. By mining it for gravel, which he sold to a railroad company, he was able to have a railroad spur built to his land - and advertised it as a park. The park became cemeteries after burials within the city of Chicago were outlawed; with the easy access to the railroad this was an ideal location. |
