Ferdinand Haase (cemetery founder): Forest Home Cemetery
Ferdinand Haase (cemetery founder)
Ferdinand Haase originally owned all of the land which eventually became Forest Home and Waldheim cemeteries. By mining it for gravel, which he sold to a railroad company, he was able to have a railroad spur built to his land - and advertised it as a park. The park became cemeteries after burials within the city of Chicago were outlawed; with the easy access to the railroad this was an ideal location.
